We have all heard of this phrase that says…time is money…on so many occasions, but like many sayings, we never ever really think about the saying or even heed the message behind it. Have you ever wondered why some people seem to be way more successful than others despite the fact that they have been brought up in a similar background, with the same values, sometimes its your workmate who gets paid almost the same as you and yet could be more successful. Granted there are other factors that determines one’s success or lack thereof but I would like to focus on TIME. How do you spend your 24 hours?
TIME…TIME…TIME…..we are either always running late, on time, out of time, trying to squeeze one extra thing in there, we never seem to have enough time to do the things we need to do so as to be successful. We seem to always be lagging behind, always trying to play catch up, just when you think you are ahead of the game, a friend, colleague, family member is always at hand to show you that you have not done nothing yet. So what do we need to do in order for us to be successful in our time management which in turn translates to success in all that we do.
In my view, we all have 24 hours to work with, but for others it always seems they have more while we are shortchanged on time factor. I was listening to some inspirational messages by motivational speaker, ERIC THOMAS, and he talks about how his life changed for the better after he found a way to better manage his time…suddenly he had lots of time and hence lots of things to do to be successful. He took a stab at something that we all love and wish we had more of SLEEP….YEP SLEEP! He was talking to some college kids and in his speech he said that his life changed for the better when he started getting up early to do things. He studied the rich and famous and one thing that was common about their sleep patterns was that they all woke up early….3am, 4am, and by the time the rest of the world is waking up may be about 7am, 8 am, 9am or later….these people already have a 3 or 4 hour head start!
I know most of us would not love the idea of waking up earlier but think about this for a moment. If I wake up everyday at 8am and my friend gets up every day at 5am, he or she has a 3hour head start, there are five working days and therefore by weekend this person is 15 hours ahead of me. In a month those are 60 hours, those are 2 an 1/2 days a month that the friend is ahead of me. Six months on or a year on, there is a difference in our lifestyles because my friend is ahead of me time wise and therefore if TIME=MONEY then it goes without saying…they have more money than I do.
50 Cent made this quote regarding sleep; he said, “Sleep? Sleep is for those people who are broke. I don’t sleep because I have an opportunity to make my dream a reality.” It’s this type of attitude/work ethic that has turned 50 Cent into a MEGA-SUCCESS (even outside of the rap game).
P DIDDY SAYS…..The difference between me is you is I’M working when YOU’RE sleeping!! When you think you’ve done enough for the day, KEEP GOING!!
“Success isn’t something you chase. It is something you have to put forth the effort for constantly; then maybe it’ll come when you least expect it.”
-Michael Jordan
It goes without saying we need to manage our time better to ensure more success….THAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THOSE WHO ARE SUCCESSFUL AND THOSE WHO AIN’T!
